I first began dancing at the age of three. With over 20 years dance experience in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Contemporary, Musical Theatre and Latin, my life has revolved around dance. I gained a BA honours degree in Dance at Kingston University, and went on to study a Masters in Dance Science at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance in 2019, where I was introduced to physiology, biomechanics and psychology in dance. For my thesis project, I conducted qualitative research identifying the strategies used for enhancing memory in dancers. The results provided an insight into a lack of cognitive understanding within the classroom, leading me to focus on using my knowledge to help teachers. Having worked across performing, teaching and administrative roles in arts education, I moved out of London to pursue my career as a dance scientist in Chichester, West Sussex. However, the COVID-19 pandemic altered these plans. It was during lockdown, I began to take some online fitness classes, but I missed my dancing terribly. I learned of a new class, ‘Broadway Boogie’ and absolutely loved it. I decided to train to become a qualified instructor and here we are today, creating a new online dance fitness platform! With this, I hope to bring a scientific knowledge to my teaching methods. I strongly value the importance of putting all elements of dance science research into practice to provide a safe classroom environment for everyone’s well-being, both physically and mentally.
